Viewing images on a server after uploading using FTP

This page being completed this week!

1. This image to show browser with directory listing

When images are uploaded to the server they are done so using 4 different image names.

image1.jpg
image2.jpg
image3.jpg
image4.jpg

when you look in the directory to which you are uploading the images eg. http://stealthbigbrother.com/myimages you will always see these 4 images which you can then click on and reveal the picture.

2. Image to reveal image 1 picture

Stealth Big Brother will only ever upload 4 image names and this is regardless of the camera number that uploaded that image.

So for example, camera 1 detects movement and uploads an image named image1.jpg, camera 4 then detects the next image and uploads image2.jpg.

If camera 4 then continues to detect movement it will upload image3.jpg, image4.jpg then back to image1.jpg over writing the old image1.jpg and so on.

There are two alternative ways to display images on your screen and the first is using some simple HTML code that displays the 4 images in your browser when you visit the web site and the second uses a Java applet program running on AEI's servers which intelligently processes the images prior to display.

3. Simple HTML code - picture to show browser template

Simple HTML code is an effective way to display images saved using .jpg format but has several draw backs compared to the server option listed below.

Disadvantages are..

i) Slow to display new images (2 mins typical)

ii) Occasionally the display of an incomplete image will occur as the image is being ftp uploaded and downloaded to your browser at the same time.

iii) Uses unnecasary bandwidth because the refresh rate takes place regardless of any update to images.

iii) No facility to store images.

If you wish to use this html click here to view the code.

4. AEI Server Options

The AEI Server option provides a dedicated web site which can be accessed from anywhere in the world with an address such as http://mystealth.info/john which allows you to simply enter the domain 'mystealth.info/john' in your browser. You can view this domain name to see a live feed and how the script operates.

The Java servlet program running on the server then processes the .jpg images as each one is ftp uploaded to the server. This allows for images to be presented in an auto-thumbnail view and only updates your image view when a fresh image is uploaded.

A facility is also included which allows you to scroll through the history of the images.

Server options are charged on the basis of the number of history images you wish to store.

Option 1 provides all the script and the unique domain name for a single annual payment of UKP 20.00

Option 2 also provides for the storage of 1000 images for UKP 26.99

Option 3 then provides for the storage of 100,000 images for UKP 99.99 as well as a true virtual server such as http://john.mystealth.info which includes full web statistics and other server benefits.

Custom options are also available.
